Ujima is an ambitious, wide-reaching social enterprise and broadcaster designed to impact positively upon whole communities, across all age-ranges. Since launching in 2008, the station has attracted over 250 volunteers, whilst it currently caters for over 100 volunteers in various capacities. With 24,000 listeners every day, and giving a range of media opportunities to the economically disadvantaged, we have promoted a range of events including the Bristol Harbourside Festival and St Pauls Carnival, working with Bristol City Council, Watershed and the BBC.

Ujima Radio CIC has created new opportunities in media to share information and improve employment, training and provide a platform for cultural and creative expression. Ujima helps to build bridges and work in partnership with organisations and communities alike. Ujima has continued to expand the community’s knowledge of the history and heritage of the diverse cultures living in Bristol.

We help the wider-community understand some of the pressing issues that occur within a community including health, politics, employment and social inclusion. Most importantly, our broadcasting philosophy is to use radio and related media such as photography, filming and social media to build bridges between the diverse BME communities and the wider communities living in Bristol and the South-West, in Media Training and Education to create employment and enterprise. This is to celebrate cultural diversity and challenge inequality.
